Today I Took My Daughter On A Cinderella Date… And We Learned Some Valuable Lessons!

Life is finally starting to get back to normal… I have started working again, got my confidence back and the kids are settling in nicely. Having a baby changes everything – wether it is your first or second… it does not matter – it…changes…everything (mostly for the good).

Before Knox was born, I used to take Mikayla on regular ‘dates’, this was our time – just us girls. During this time I would not pick up my phone unless it was to capture that perfect Instagram moment, because let’s face it – my child is freakin’ gorgeous. Anyway, even though I have made a point in including Mikayla when we do things with Knox and trying my best to give her equal amounts of attention we have not been able to go on one of our little dates since Knox’s birth almost 5 months ago – and that’s okay. There is so much adjusting, healing and changing happening and I knew it would be unfair to put too much pressure on myself to keep things the same.

We finally had a chance to start dating again today, we had such a blast! One day when Knox is old enough we will have our own dates too – I really think it is so important. We went to watch Cinderella at Ster Kinekor. I was worried at first as she is still very young and not a fan of ‘real-life’ movies, but it was what she chose to watch. It was a brilliant choice – we both really enjoyed it and it really exceeded my expectations. If you thought the 2015 reboot of Cinderella would be sassy and all-knowing you’d be wrong. And its very traditionalism is its greatest strength. Before you read any further, I will be referencing quotes from the movie – so if you consider that a spoiler – spoiler alert!

{Restaurant Review} Sundowners And Dinner At Cafe Caprice In Camps Bay, Cape Town

Last week we decided to head over to Cafe Caprice for some sundowners and dinner. Our summer days here in Cape Town are numbered and we wanted to enjoy it while we can and bask in the sun, soaking up the energy of our beautiful city. Also, we needed a break from the kids… If I have to sing The Hotdog Song one more time…

Cafe Caprice Restaurant Review - Caffeine and Fairydust Taryn and Maz

First of all – the location does not get better than this. Whether it is for the artisan cocktails in the summer months or for the great winter burger special, Café Caprice never disappoints.  Situated on the world famous Camps Bay Strip, Caprice has been around since 1999 and still enjoys a faithful following from locals and international visitors alike.

We sat at our table watching the sun set across the ocean, palm trees against a blood orange sky,  surrounded by beautiful people and good vibes. Continue reading

Made in the Cape is an artisan goods market, held monthly inside Cavendish Square.

The aim is to showcase the best in local design and handmade artisan goods and include designers in all disciplines and from all walks of life. This is absolutely perfect for Christmas shopping!

All the products are handmade right here in Cape Town by our very talented local artists.

Products include hand cut and crafted silver jewellery, stylish décor items in textile, wood and many upcycled materials, hand stitched leather bags and laser cut earings in leather and perspex – the focus is definitely on quirky, different, one of a kind items.

They also have a range of natural skincare, made with raw honey!

Besides promoting their own small businesses, each of these entrepreneurs also contribute to the upliftment of local communities by providing employment. In addition, and possibly of greatest importance, is the training and skills transfer, passed on to their many apprentices and assistants.

An Unforgettable Date Night Under The Stars in Cape Town – The Galileo Open Air Cinema

‘An unforgettable, amazingly organized movie night under the stars. Definitely the best date night I have had in years… The Galileo Open Air Cinema has to be on your To Do list in Cape Town this summer! Looking at the program I love that they offer such a wide variety of movies.’

I was invited to attend the Galileo Open Air Cinema‘s Launch on Wednesday, it was my first time ever attending and I was completely blown away!

Being a hopeless romantic, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity for hubby and me to finally get our date night… and what a magnificent date night it was. Being 32 weeks pregnant I was a little bit worried about camping out on the grass all night, but you can rent these surprisingly comfortable backrests – getting up was a different story though.

Wow… where to start.

The whole event was so well organized, the vibe was absolutely amazing. There were so many people, but it did not feel overcrowded at all. We arrived early and took advantage of all the amazing food and drink vendors before the queues started. Cole had the beefy Argentinian sandwich (what a surprise) and I had a MASSIVE plate of the best Nacho’s in Cape Town and we finished it off with freshly made hot popcorn. Cole obviously went craft beer crazy, but there are also normal soft drinks, wine and delicious fresh smoothies for sale. Other yummy food options are straight-out-the-oven pizza, cheese and cold meat platters, Mexican chicken salads, chili poppers and Argentinian delicacies.

We sat there eating our delicious food while watching the sun set over Kirstenbosch Gardens and were treated with a Burlesque performance before the movie started. That night we watched Moulin Rouge under the stars, tucked away in our cozy blankets, surrounded by the most beautiful city in the world. It felt so nostalgic, it reminded me of when my parents used to take us to the drive-in when we were young (remember those?). You know you sometimes get that overwhelming feeling of content? When everything in the world is just right and you realize what a beautiful life you have and how grateful you should truly be? When all your troubles melt way and it seems impossible for anything to go wrong? This was one of those nights.

The Galileo Open Air Cinema should definitely be on your to do list this summer, I know that I will definitely be back… there are so many movies I want to watch including Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Napoleon Dynamite, Top Gun, Home Alone, Grease, Back To The Future I, Eat Pray Love, The Notebook, Casablanca, Zoolander, Titanic and Gone With The Wind!
